Lazy Sundays

Sunday is the holy, last day of the week. This day is dedicated to honoring God’s creation, going to church and resting amongst family. It is supposed to be a leisurely day and not one in which work is the main activity like the rest of the week. Even though there are six working days, people still seem to have so much work to do that they can’t afford that one day of the week when they should take it easy.

So it happens that on the one day when I want nothing to do but rest, I’m woken up early in the morning by the sound of busy neighbors. Whether they are vacuuming their apartment, drilling a hole in the wall or arguing who should take out the garbage, they always manage to dissolve my dreams and wake me up.

I sometimes feel like I am the only one person who wants to be lazy on a Sunday. For me Sunday should be much longer, it should give you more time to prepare for the busy week starting with the Monday we hate. And because I am aware that nobody can make the Sunday longer just for the Sunday lazy people like me, we should try and have activities that give us the feeling that Sunday is longer.

On Sunday people should try and wake up late, compensating for the rest of the days when they are up to drill their walls at 6 A.M. On Sundays everybody should eat something fancy, something well prepared and spoil themselves a bit not like during the rest of the week when they are always in a hurry. Last but not least they should get together with some boring relatives or friends, or even play a long game of chess with someone who can’t really decide his moves. This way Sunday will be guaranteed a longer one and you’ll be soon think that the following Monday doesn’t seem so bad after all.
